Mazatlan – Getting There and Back
Getting to Mazatlan and Back
For those who want to enjoy the Paradise known as Mazatlan, there are several ways to travel there and back.
Flying to Mazatlan
Flying is a good option, because Mazatlan does have an international airport (code MZT) with regular service by several airlines to many parts of the USA and the rest of the world. From the airport there are various forms of transportation available to get to your hotel in Mazatlan. You can take an official airport taxi, the yellow ones. (The Mazatlan government regulates the taxis, and the yellow taxis are the only ones permitted to pick up people from the airport.) There are also buses available, which are actually a viable option in Mexico because they are very common and are generally of decent quality. And many hotels provide a pickup service for their guests. For example, El Rancho Hotel and Beach Resort, the Mazatlan hotel that sponsors this blog, will have someone waiting to meet each of their guests and guide them through the airport and drive them to the resort.
Driving to Mazatlan
Driving is another option for traveling to Mazatlan. From the U.S.-Mexico border there are decent quality highways and toll roads to Mazatlan. The only real challenge is crossing the Sierra Madre mountain range, where the highway is rather dangerous - narrow and with hundreds of curves. There is construction in progress, though, to complete a toll road from Mazatlan to Durango which will be safer and much faster, cutting off at least 3 hours of travel time.
Other Options for Traveling to Mazatlan
Traveling by bus is another way to get to Mazatlan. Though this doesn't sound very appealing to most people, the bus system in Mexico is actually better than you would expect. Buses are a very common form of transportation in Mexico, and the buses are comfortable, safe, and economical.
One other option is to arrive in Mazatlan by the ferry which runs from La Paz (on the Baja California peninsula) to Mazatlan. The ferry makes it possible for people on the west coast to drive down through Baja California and then take the ferry to arrive in Mazatlan.
Finally, sailing to Mazatlan is also possible. Mazatlan does offer a marina with complete services, so Mazatlan makes for a wonderful destination for a sailing trip!
Buen Viaje! (Have a good trip!)
However you choose to travel, Mazatlan is such a wonderful place that it will be well worth the trip. El Rancho wishes you the best on your trip, and offers the most relaxing beach resort in Mazatlan for you to enjoy your vacation.
