Mazatlan Safety Update – Who’s behind the hysteria?

For anyone who has doubts about their safety while in Mazatlan, due to the media blitz about the supposedly "dangerous situation" in Mexico, we thought the following article might be helpful:

http://news.newamericamedia.org/news/view_article.html?article_id=8e691dcf627bab5e72b42dbd5f4cbc65

The article addresses the concerns, and shows from a variety of sources that the media has severely exaggerated the problem. It also points out that the source of many of the exaggerated reports is actually the Florida Tourism Council, which is definitely not a very impartial witness.

It's actually interesting that in the comments on the article, the question of how many tourists have been killed in Mazatlan comes up. The answer? Zero! One person from an originally Mexican family was killed on the highway to Durango a couple hours away from Mazatlan while on the way to vacation there, but that is the only tourist death in Mazatlan even remotely related to the supposedly out of control drug violence.

If you have plans to come to Mazatlan, or are making plans to vacation on the beach, come and enjoy yourself! The "war on drugs" is not going to affect you while you're here anymore than it does while you're home! :)
